Exclusive Foyles Launch

23rd October 2012, saw the exclusive launch of ‘Love Me As I Am’ at Foyles, in Charing Cross Road, London.

The launch of Love Me As I Am has been the most anticipated event on our calendar this year and when the date finally arrived, the evening exceeded all expectations, starting with an audience well-over 140 people.

The fantastic pianist Dave Roberts warmed the crowd up and set the tone for the evening. The receptive and empathetic crowd engaged in the most heartfelt and compassionate way with all the speakers, which included contributing authors Christopher Nicholls, John Holt, Robert Ramcharan and Paul Woodward, all of whom shared their letters from the book.

Paul Bradley from Diversity Role Models gave a very moving speech about the work the charity does by tackling homophobic bullying in schools, and Ade Adeniji and Darren Brady (Founder of The Quest) facilitated an insightful conversation between the audience and contributors during the Q&A.

A very special thank you goes to Foyles for their support and encouragement during the entire project, and for hosting the launch event. In particular, we want to thank Andy Quinn, Bill Samuel and David Owen.

Tara Mahmud “It’s been a while where a book truly inspires and motivates, giving you the self-confidence to continue your journey no matter how challenging life becomes. Love Me as I am: Gay Men Reflect on their Lives charts some of the poignant moments in the lives of 24 gay men. Their determination to become fully self-actualized, empowered and empowering gay men is uplifting. What’s more, profits made from the sale of the book are donated to charity!”

Hannah Jordan“It was really moving, interesting and, above all else, inspiring. Sitting at the back, I could see people in the room nodding in agreement at various points, and when I left all of the comments I overheard I were extremely positive. This really is such an amazing achievement. You should be so proud of yourself. I wish you every success with the book, and the project as a whole (connecting people who can help with those who need help, the theatre event which sounds great and the discussion of where to go next).

Thanks very much for inviting me to the launch, I was really pleased to be there – sorry I cried!

Heidi Hutchence “It was a privilege to have been there. Thank YOU for a beautiful, moving and very special evening.”
